As it has been observed that some cases of anergic stupor and melancholia-make a rapid recovery after an attack of acute physical illness, e.cj.. erysipelas, Stoddart in his " Mind and its Disorders " recommends that an acute physical illness should be induced, and the illness that he selects for the purpose is hyperthyroidism.
